How do I rank up in the epitheral horses event? I buy a higher GP male, breed a F to same GP as male, then the next day repeat

the ranking is about the highest GP ephemeral you own. If you BLUP your ephemerals before breeding, the GP gain will be higher, just as with the usual horses.
